Bonnaroo Music Festival: Everything you need to know

What is Bonnaroo?

What exactly is Bonnaroo? Bonnaroo is a four-day annual music and arts festival held in Manchester, Tennessee. The music festival features ten stages and over 150 musicians from across the country. You can party all night with your family and friends thanks to nonstop entertainment.

For two decades, Bonnaroo has attracted high-profile media attention and critical acclaim. It's a four-day celebration that will blow your mind. There will be over 150 musical performances, as well as comedy, cinema, sustainability workshops, and other activities.

Tickets for this year's festival are now on sale and can be purchased from the festival's official website. For the four days of Bonnaroo, tickets are available in four tiers: General Admission, GA+, VIP, and Platinum. Aside from admission tickets, you can also purchase travel packages and add-ons.

The Bonnaroovian Code

Keep it in mind. Follow it. Nobody knows where the code came from. Some claim that the tenets of the Bonnaroovian Code just appeared beneath the Arch one day, while others claim that some funky party-aliens dropped it off during their last visit. In any case, we have it now, and it may be the most important thing you need to know about attending Bonnaroo.

Prepare Yourself

A well-prepared Bonnaroovian is a contented Bonnaroovian. Camping for several days in the Tennessee countryside is not something you should do haphazardly. Prepare ahead of time, and you'll be off to a great start.

Play as a Group

At Bonnaroo, whether you're here with family or with strangers, you're all on the same team. Help your neighbors when they are in need, share that bottle of water when it is hot, and collaborate to make everyone's Bonnaroo experience the best it can be.

Exude Happiness

"Radiate Positivity," possibly the most well-known tenet of the Bonnaroovian Code, may sound simple, but it's far more powerful than most people realize. When we step onto The Farm, we all try our hardest to be the best we can be, and it makes all the difference. Be amazing to one another.

Honor the Farm

When possible, recycle and compost, and make sure you and those around you are respectful of the environment. Some festivals leave a field of trash after each set; Bonnaroo is not one of them. Contribute to keeping Bonnaroo unique.

Don't be that person.

It's not pretty, as we've all seen. Have a good time while you're here, but make sure it doesn't include ruining someone else's night or putting yourself in danger. Take it slowly, be respectful, and keep your fellow Bonnaroovians in mind.

Roo, stay true to yourself.

The Bonnaroovian code isn't just for four days a year in Tennessee; it applies to all Bonnaroovians, everywhere and at all times. Bring the spirit of Bonnaroo with you into the world, and let's make life a little bit easier for everyone on this floating space-marble we call Earth.

Where is Bonnaroo?

Where can I find Bonnaroo? The Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival will take place from June 16 to 19, 2022. The main music and events take place from Thursday to Sunday, but the campgrounds are open to people with the proper passes from Tuesday before the festival until Monday morning after the festival.

Camping for four days in Tennessee is not an easy task. It gets even more complicated when you throw in a few hundred musical acts and over a thousand new friends. Here are some pointers to keep you comfortable and healthy while at Bonnaroo. It's a marathon, not a race.

We know it's a cliche. But, seriously, no human being can give it their all for the duration of Bonnaroo. That is not a challenge; it is simply a fact.

Plan rest breaks throughout the day, stay hydrated and fed, and be honest with yourself if you're not feeling well. We all hate to admit it, but sometimes you have to miss one set in order to attend several others. Pay attention to your body!

Refill your water bottle frequently, and keep ice on hand.

There are water stations strategically placed throughout the festival for a reason. Keep those water bottles full, and stay hydrated. Also, make sure to get some extra ice from the campground vendors each morning to keep your food and drinks cold at the campsite. Before going to the farm, some people like to freeze some water bottles. That way, you'll have ice for a day or two and then a drink!

Eat Wisely

You'd eat more than Cheetos and Kool-aid if you were about to run a 10k, right? The same is true for Bonnaroo. Bring some healthy snacks to keep you going throughout the day, and stop by our food vendors for some hearty meals as well. Dancing and partying require a lot of energy; make sure you have enough!

If you require assistance, please request it!

You're not feeling well? Please do not hesitate to ask our staff for directions to the nearest medical tent. The Bonnaroo team (and other Bonnaroovians) are always willing to assist, but we aren't mind readers (yet), so don't be afraid to ask for help if you require it.

There's no need to "rough it": showers, water, and bathrooms are all at your disposal.

Showers are available for a small fee at most plazas, as well as nicer trailer bathrooms and water stations throughout the campgrounds (you'll likely be closer to a porta-potty, but sometimes the extra walk is worth it). Take some time to look after yourself. Brush your teeth, drink your water, and do everything else your mother would tell you if she were here. You'll feel better and be more prepared to face the day.

Extra phone batteries and chargers are a must-have.

Nobody wants to start their car engine just to charge their phone, and car exhaust can be a serious carbon monoxide hazard (be cautious!). Bringing a battery to charge your phone every now and then will help keep you comfortable.

The importance of shade and airflow cannot be overstated:

When planning your campsite in Tennessee, keep in mind that you will be in an open grassy field. It'll get hot, and you won't want to be in direct sunlight while relaxing at your campsite.

Bring a shade canopy to cover your area, and consider adding another to provide additional shade on top of your tent. No Bonnaroo attendee has ever complained, "We have too much shade at this campsite." Many Bonnaroovians also hang cloth tapestries from the edge of their shade tents, which help block the sun at lower angles while not obstructing too much airflow.

Also, be wary of confined spaces (like the inside of a zipped-up tent). They're great for keeping warm at night, but when the sun comes out, they turn into a greenhouse, and you won't want to stay inside for any longer than necessary.

Consider sleeping in a smaller tent to maximize the shaded area outside your tent during the day. Some people will even set up a sleeping cot beneath a shade canopy and call it a day.

What is the best way for me to get to Bonnaroo?

Most people fly into Nashville International Airport (BNA), which is 60 miles from Manchester, Tennessee. (You can also rent a car at the airports)

Others fly into Chattanooga (CHA), which is a quick 80-mile drive to Manchester, TN, or Knoxville (TYS), which is a spontaneous 150-mile drive, or Atlanta (ATL), which is 195 miles away.

Driving Directions
  • Take I-75 or I-59 to Chattanooga if you're coming from the east. Take I-24 west from Chattanooga.

  • To get to Nashville from the west, take I-40, I-24, or I-65. Take I-24 east from Nashville.

  • If you're going to rely on GPS, set it to Manchester, TN. When you get close, you'll see signs for "Bonnaroo," and you can just go with the flow from there.

  • The festival's official address is 1560 New Bushy Branch Rd, but as you approach, you should start following signs and directions from police and staff rather than your GPS.

Fill up your gas tank before arriving at Bonnaroo. You could be in line for several hours, and running out of gas is never fun. Due to the large number of attendees, parking at the festival grounds will fill up quickly. As a result, it is preferable to use an off-site parking garage. Early booking ensures that parking is available within walking distance of the venue.

If you intend to spend the night, don't forget to bring your camping gear. A shade structure with a tarp would be a good option. Keep two water bottles and jugs on hand for refilling. Include rain gear in case the rain gods decide to visit. If it rains, a pair of muddy boots can also come in handy.

Each type of camping and parking pass has its own set of rules.

  • Car Camping (Most Popular): To enter the Tollbooth into Bonnaroo, every car, truck, SUV, minivan, or other standard vehicle will need a Car Camping Pass or Car Parking Pass (think of it like a wristband for your car). Campsites with a Car Camping pass are approximately 20'x20' (including the space for your car).

  • You cannot purchase additional campsites around a single vehicle – you will receive as many spots as you have cars AND passes combined. There is no "per person" fee for camping. So, for example, if you have three people arriving in one car, you only need one car camping pass (everyone will need a festival ticket though).

  • Car Parking Pass: The Car Parking Pass grants you one parking spot in the "Day Parking Lot" beginning at 8 a.m. on Thursday until the end of the festival, with passes available for each day of the festival beginning at 8 a.m. on Thursday. You are not permitted to enter before 8 a.m. on Thursday.

  • You are not permitted to sleep in your car or camp next to it. An RV pass is required if you plan to bring a vehicle larger than a standard 15-passenger van. A Car Camping Pass is required if you want to camp next to your car. This pass allows you to park in Day Parking on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

  • RV Camping Passes: Each RV entering the campgrounds must have an RV pass (think of it like a wristband for your RV). Each RV space will be approximately 20' X 50'. Tents may be set up if they fit within this space, and any slides or awnings must also fit within this space.

  • The following vehicles are classified as RVs, and each RV that enters The Farm requires an RV Pass: Any size RV: Class A, B, or C | Any size bus (no tour buses, prevosts, or low clearance motorcoaches allowed) | Any vehicle wider or longer than a standard 15 passenger van (230.8′′ x 79.3′′ x 82.3′′) | Any vehicle towing a camper or 5th wheel of any size It's an RV if you're towing anything. (No box trucks or trailers are permitted in the campgrounds.) In the RV FAQs section, you'll find information on companion vehicles.

  • Tents and Glamping Options (in GA, VIP, and Platinum): Leave the tent pitching and furnishing to us and camp in style with these upgraded options! Each rental includes a vehicle pass that allows you to park in a special lot just a short walk from your rented accommodations (but note that your car will not be parked immediately next to your tent).
